Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance – Samuel Johnson
We visited the Richtersveld in the Northern region of South Africa in 2016. The region is only accessible by 4×4. I photographed this Baster Kokerboom on the day just before we left the Richtersveld. We stopped close to it and climbed a little hill to get to it.
The Baster Kokerboom, Aloe Pillansii, is the scarcest and most spectacular of all tree aloes. It is one of the treasures of the Richtersveld.
They have persevered for centuries and are confined to the barren and rugged mountain desert, The Richtersveld, in South Africa where they are individually numbered. They are listed as an endangered species. This is Nr 69 of about 200.
